He’s “Miserables” no more thanks to a gorgeous co-star.
To say Russell Crowe’s had a tough six months would be an understatement. He was rescued by the US coastguard after getting lost on his kayak off Long Island in September. A month later, he and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, separated amid claims a divorce was imminent.
In December, he endured scathing reviews and jibes for his turn as Javert in the big-screen adaptation of Les Miserables. And earlier this year he quit Twitter after being bullied online. But things may be looking up for the burly actor, who has two sons, Charles, 9, and Tennyson, 6, with Danielle.
Insiders say Russell has found love again with his Les Miserables co-star Samantha Barks (who plays Eponine). The 26-year age gap – Russell is 48, Samantha just 22 – has raised eyebrows in showbiz circles. Russell dropped the first hint things were heating up the night before the Oscars, when the pair, along with the rest of the Les Mis cast, rehearsed a number for the awards show.
“Next up… showtime @SamanthaBarks will be looking amazing tonight, worth tuning in just for that,” he tweeted ahead of the Oscars. On the night, Russell and Samantha stayed close, sitting side by side at the ceremony. Later in the week, the pair hit the gym together, then stopped for coffee. But working up a sweat isn’t the only thing they have in common.
