Hugh Jackman has finally revealed the heartbreaking battle he and Deborra-lee Furness went through while trying to fall pregnant.

Now a dad to two adopted children, Oscar, 8, and Ava, 3, Hugh, 40, told a US magazine last week that he and Deborra-lee, 48, were unprepared for the emotional and physical turmoil they endured while trying to have a baby by IVF.

“We always wanted to adopt, but first we wanted to have two kids biologically,” he says. “We tried for a long time, and it didn’t happen. That was difficult, unexpected.

“I got married at 27, and before that it was all about not getting pregnant. My wife is very headstrong. She’d gotten pretty much everything she’d wanted in life — except this.”

A candid Hugh reveals that the period where he and Deborra-lee attempted IVF was perhaps the most challenging time of their 12-year marriage.
