Bec and Lleyton Hewitt’s countdown to separation

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt's countdown to seperation

No more tennis wife… Bec settles into their Aussie home as Lleyton prepares to go on his next tour alone.

As Lleyton Hewitt gets ready to fly out for the US in the coming days, the tennis star’s family are said to be making the most of the time they have left together before being separated by the rigours of the ATP world tour.

While the 29-year-old’s first-round defeat at the Australian Open last week comes as a crushing blow to his on-court ambitions for the year ahead, it at least affords him a little extra time with his family.

Determined to stage a career comeback and return to the top 10, the former world No. 1 will spend the next few hard months apart from his wife, Bec, and their children, Mia, 5, Cruz, 2, and two-month-old Ava, as he travels the globe, before they reunite at the French Open in May and Wimbledon in June.

“The ranking will take care of itself,” a disappointed Lleyton, currently 54th in the world, told reporters after his loss to David Nalbandian last Tuesday. “My priority now is the four majors and preparing and trying to do as well as I can in those.”

And the career setback in Melbourne aside, Lleyton will now have an extra week to spend with Bec and the children – and is expected to stay in the country to see Mia off on her first day of school – before heading to the US to prepare for the SAP Open in San Jose.
