Mum of three Bec Hewitt is taking charge of her career and is secretly negotiating a return to Summer Bay.
While the actress has become a full-time wife to husband Lleyton Hewitt and mum to Mia, 8, Cruz, 5, and 3-year-old Ava in the Bahamas, she is now looking to get her career back on track.
“Bec would love to act again,” confirms a family friend.
“It’s the only real job she’s ever had and she misses doing something for herself.
“Sure, she is a great mum and a very supportive wife to Lleyton, but she doesn’t really have anything for herself. Bec gets fed up with always being the support act.”
The Aussie actress is finally ready to come out of the shadows of her tennis star hubby, but the secret talks about returning to television may not be the only thing she is keeping under wraps.
The 30-year-old raised speculation last week when she was spotted with a possible baby bump while cheering on her husband in London at the Queen’s Club tennis tournament – a warm-up event for Wimbledon.
Even if she is pregnant, friends of the soap star say her planned return to TV signals a new beginning for Bec.
“She’d have made a comeback long before this if she had her way, but with a husband intensely focused on his own career it was just impossible… until now,” says one friend of the actress.
“I know she virtually agreed to the TV job 18 months ago, expecting Lleyton to retire, but when he delayed it again she put it on the backburner.
“Now she feels it’s her time and she is comfortable in television, so a return toHome And Awayis a natural fit.”
Woman’s Day understand that show producers are delighted to have her back and have even started casting to find actors to play opposite her.
Now that Lleyton’s people handle Bec’s management, the only remaining hurdle is money. It is predicted it will cost the show’s producers at least $500,000 to bring Bec’s character Hayley back to the Bay.
