Jodhi Meares has escaped a severe sentence after pleaded guilty to charges of high-range drink driving.
The Sydney-based fashion designer and former wife to billionaire James Packer, arrived at court dressed in a black pant suit and pleaded guilty to the charge of driving under the influence through her high-profile lawyer Chris Murphy at Waverley Court.
The 43-year-old former model blew an alcohol reading of 0.181 back in June – almost four times the legal limit. Jodhi reportedly had to be rescued from her Range Rover which rolled after smashing into three parked cars in Bellevue Hill in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Although Jodhi could have potentially faced up to 18 months in prison, she instead received a fine of $1100 – significantly less than the $3000 maximum.
Magistrate Julie Huber also suspended Jodhi’s license for 12 months – which is the lowest possible suspension period for a high-range drink-driving offence.

Jodhi’s solicitor Chris Murphy said “She’s been punished enough,” referring to the impact of media attention since her high-profile marriage to the tycoon James Packer. He also said that his client, Jodhi had been prescribed with sedatives and beta blockers to help her cope with her anxiety after the accident.

Chris Murphy presented to the court numerous references to the defendant’s good character, including letters from high-profile brain surgeon Charlie Teo and the former assistant commissioner of police. The defence also pointed out that part of the proceeds from every fashion garment she sells, through her clothing label Tigerlily, goes to helping children in Cambodia.
Chris Murphy claimed Jodhi had been surprised at having had such a high blood alcohol reading, having only consumed four and a half drinks prior to the crash.
