Beloved actor, Robin Williams took his own life at home while his wife slept in a separate room on Sunday night, Californian police have confirmed.
According to Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the 63-year-old comic genius was found unconscious at around 11.55am on Monday morning by his personal assistant.
The Good Will Hunting actor, who was suffering severe depression, was found “clothed and “unresponsive” Lieutenant Keith Boyd revealed during a press conference.
Authorities say, initial findings suggest cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation, however the a full forensic examination and toxicology results won’t be available for two to six weeks.
It is still not known whether the oscar-winning actor left behind a suicide note.
Following Robin’s untimely death, his wife Susan Schneider issued a heartfelt statement.
“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” she wrote.
“As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
Last month Robin, who has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, reportedly checked himself into rehab to continue his commitment to sobriety.
