Brad and Angelina’s $463 million pre-nup

While Brad and Angelina’s recent wedding at their country estate in France was low-key, their pre-nuptial agreement is reportedly anything but.

Putting all the romance of their special day to one side, Brad and Angelina have taken a pragmatic approach to the legal merging of their assets, Star magazine reports.

With a whopping combined worth of $463 million (US $425 million), it’s little wonder that they’d want to protect their assets.

“It was heavily encouraged by their lawyers,” an insider told Star magazine. “They said that having a pre-nup is the best way to protect their kids.”

Although the idea of all that additional red-tape may seem a little cold and unromantic to some, Brad and Ange are reportedly doing it all for the kids. They have planned it all to ensure their children are cared for, no matter what the future may bring.

According to Star’s source, the pre-nup states that Brad and Ange would each keep what they individually brought into the marriage money-wise, however all post-wedding earnings would be placed in a trust for the kids. That includes joint projects such as their upcoming film By the Sea, in which the pair are co-starring and Angelina is directing.

Given that it was a cheating scandal that brought them together in the first place – when Brad left Jennifer Aniston after meeting Ange on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, the pre-nup also factors in what the cost will be for cheating.

“If Brad gets too serious with another woman while they are married, she’ll get primary custody if they split,” another reported insider told Star.

“None of it would go to Brad or Angelina or a subsequent partner,” the source explained. “It really seemed like the fairest way to go about it.”

As well as a pre-nup, the pair also signed a will before they wed which looks after some of their favourite charities as well as their six children.

“Their six properties will all go to the children but there are also legacies created that go to orphanages in each of the countries where they adopted kids [Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam],” the source said.

Some funds will also reportedly go to cancer research – a cause close to Angelina’s heart after her own treatment for breast cancer, including a preventative double mastectomy.  Angelina’s mother Marcheline Bertrand also passed away from ovarian cancer in 2007, aged 56.
