George Clooney to star in Downton Abbey

Be still our beating hearts! George Clooney is set to join the cast of the smash-hit British TV series Downton Abbey.

George will play an American character who is a wedding guest at the country estate of Downton. His guest-spot is set to screen as part of a special episode at Christmas time in the UK.

A spokesperson for ITV – the network that produces the show, has said that George will appear in a sketch, but not a full episode, for a charity fundraiser episode, called Text Santa.

It seems George rather sneakily kept his exciting guest role under wraps – as it’s believed that the scenes have already been filmed.

Sources told The Sun: “All the plans have been shrouded in secrecy because George was determined for his role not to leak out.

“All the other cast members and crew were also sworn to secrecy. It’s amazing it’s taken four months for someone to find out. This is the biggest moment in Downton history and shows it’s now the biggest drama in the world.”

George is apparently a massive fan of the show, and also good friends with Hugh Bonneville, who of course stars in the show as Lord Robert Crawley. The pair co-starred in the Nazi-art-hunt film The Monuments Men, where they became good friends.

We can’t wait to see George all frocked up in his costume on one of the most popular period dramas of all time!
