William and Catherine receive traditional welcome in New Zealand

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have officially started their tour of New Zealand and Australia with a welcome ceremony at government house in Wellington.

William and Catherine, along with their nine-month-old son Prince George were welcomed at a military terminal in Wellington this morning by Prime Minister John Key, his wife Bronagh and Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown and her husband Alistair Nicholson.

The royal family then drove to Government House, where they will stay for the duration of their New Zealand Tour.

They were officially welcomed with a ‘hongi’, a traditional Maori greeting and a Maori Powhiri Ceremonial Welcome.
