William and Catherine breaking royal nanny tradition

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are planning to hire a part-time nanny when their first child arrives, breaking with royal tradition.

Historically, royal children have been raised mainly by a full-time nanny, but William and Catherine have opted to take a very hands-on approach to bringing up their child.

While Prince Charles and Princess Anne were raised by governesses and nannies, Charles and Diana were far more directly involved in the lives of their sons, Princes William and Harry. The Duke and Duchess intend to take this even further with their own child, who will have the official title of the Prince or Princess of Cambridge.

The pair, who chose not to have any housekeeping staff when they first married, have often been spotted out doing their own grocery and clothes shopping, and it seems they would like the same relaxed, “normal” approach to raising their child.

Their child’s grandparents and great-grandparents will also have much more of a role than in previous generations.

The nanny is expected to sign an iron-clad contract that restricts them from disclosing any personal information about the royal couple or their child.
