Duchess Catherine’s double joy! Betting on royal twins suspended

You heard it here first! Just weeks after Woman’s Day announced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s double baby joy, betting on the royal pregnancy has suddenly been suspended.

The UK Express reports a number of British bookmakers have rejected any further bets on the increasing likelihood of Catherine and William welcoming twins, and it’s sent the rumour mill into overdrive.

News of the suspension comes after a royal betting frenzy saw punters racing to place wagers on the possibility of not one but two siblings for George entering the world next year.

Woman’s Day hears UK’s top online betting site William Hill was quick to halt betting following a flood of new punters opening accounts and gambling big.

“We’ve had a load of unexpected bets including a large number of new accounts – with any other market I would say people know something,” spokesman Rupert Adam said.

Catherine, 32, announced her second pregnancy on September 8 after acute morning sickness forced her to cancel public engagements.

And while she is being treated for hyperemesis gravidarum – the same illness she battled during her first pregnancy – it’s not quite the same this time around.

As well as Kate’s illness being experienced more often by women expecting twins, there is a strong line of multiple births in both the Middleton and Windsor families, going back generations.

“William’s uncle Charles Spencer has identical twin daughters and his grandfather Lord Fermoy was an identical twin,” royal historian Robert Lacey reveals.

“And on Kate’s side, her paternal grandmother had a twin sister and Kate’s father Michael had twin Middleton great-aunts.”
