Damian Lewis awarded OBE by Homeland fan Prince William

Prince William admitted that he and Duchess Catherine are big fans of TV show Homeland as he awarded the star Damian Lewis an OBE at Buckingham Palace.

Damian, 43, is best known for his starring role in the smash-hit US series where he plays a US POW turned terror suspect who has returned to the States after eight years in captivity. The show also co-stars Claire Danes and it seems that the series is quite a hit in the royal household!

The British-born star, also known for his roles in Band of Brothers and Life, attended the palace for the investiture ceremony alongside with his wife Helen McCrory, 46, where he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to drama.

Chatting to the Prince as he was presented with the award, Damien revealed: “He said ‘Catherine and I are huge Homeland fans’.

“I was stupefied, I had no idea, so it was a big, big surprise,” said Damian, after the ceremony.

“I remember when I heard I was being awarded it, it was a little bit like ‘now you’ve got to prove it’. It was a bit like being asked to be a prefect, now I have to be extremely responsible.”

Damian was nominated as part of the Queen’s 2014 Birthday Honours List and was surprise that not only had the Duke and Duchess seen and heard of the show, but that they were completely up to date with it too – a sign of true fans!

“He said ‘you appeared again the other night briefly, and we all got very excited,’ which is true, but it was also on Sunday night which means he is absolutely up to date with the latest episode and I’m amazed they have time for that,” Damian said.

So it sounds like if you don’t like spoilers, it’s best not to hang around the royal couple!
