James Middleton says he wants to be the “cool uncle” to Prince George

James Middleton, the brother to Duchess Catherine, has said his sister is recovering well from her illness and confessed that he wants to play the “cool uncle” to young Prince George in a revealing new TV interview.

It’s not often that we hear from the youngest Middleton – James, 27, baby brother to Pippa, 31 and Duchess Catherine, 32, but the entrepreneurial youngster has made an appearance on Good Morning America in the US to promote his new company and his line of confectionary.

So what is it like being uncle to the future King of England?

“I just want to be the best uncle possible, like any uncle wants to be,” James said. “The cool uncle, the fun uncle!”

He also revealed that Duchess Catherine was recovering well from her unfortunate bout of extreme morning sickness, known as hyperemesis gravidarum, that saw her out of action for two months.

“She’s better. It’s not unknown that she has suffered from this acute morning sickness and fortunately she is, I think, on the mend,” he said.

“It’s wonderful to have another niece or nephew on the way.”

James also revealed that the famous royal family dog, Lupo – who has featured in official family portraits with William, Catherine and George – was in fact a gift from him after their grand royal wedding in 2011.

“My little treat for them was to give them a puppy and Lupo was their gift.”

Duchess Catherine, Prince William and baby Prince George have posed  in two official family portraits with their family dog Lupo, who was a gift from James.

He also spoke about being a part of the couple’s big day, saying: “The most wonderful thing about that wedding was despite the billions watching, it felt like a family wedding.”

That’s not surprising given that the Middleton family are extremely close.

“We’re a really close family,” he said. “Actually we see each other and speak on the phone all the time. We’ll see each other – the odd Sunday lunch or popping in for a coffee or something like that.”

His visit to the US follows recent reports that Pippa Middleton may be taking up an offer to work as an anchor for US TV network NBC. As to whether she has accepted or not though, James was playing coy.

“I heard that too, her diary plans I don’t really know,” he said.

The product that James was promoting was his start-up brand called “Boomf” which allows customers to purchase customised marshmallows printed with a personalised message or image. They don’t come cheap though! A box of nine customised marshmallows will retail at approximately $25.
