As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touch down in New York on their brief pre-Christmas trip, their itinerary reveals that they are set to meet with numerous celebrities.
Prince William and Catherine arrived in the Big Apple on a chilly Sunday evening in the lead up to Christmas.
On Monday morning local time, Prince William will meet with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden when he travels solo to Washington while Duchess Catherine visits Harlem in New York to meet with children.
The pair will be staying at New York’s posh Carlyle hotel, which is the same place that William’s mother Princess Diana stayed at when she visited the city in 1997.
When William returns to New York, he will meet with other high profile political figures, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea at a reception celebrating the combined work of their Chelsea foundation and William and Kate’s Royal foundation.
It’s not all boring politics and fundraisers though – the royal couple will also attend a basketball match in the evening where they’re expected to meet with celebrities and basketball fans Beyonce and Jay Z.
The next day they will host a 600th anniversary dinner for St Andrews University – the place where they met and fell in love. It will be held at the famous at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and amongst the guests will be Tom Hanks, whose daughter attended and graduated from the university in 2004.
Tom Hanks and President Obama – who will both meet with the royals, at the National Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Washington on the weekend.
In a statement released by the White House Press Office, they revealed that William’s meeting with Obama will take place in the Oval Office.
The statement read that: “This will be the Duke of Cambridge’s first visit to Washington, DC. The President looks forward to thanking the Duke of Cambridge for the hospitality shown to him by the Royal Family during the President’s recent visits to the United Kingdom.
“This visit underscores the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.”
