Princess Charlene of Monaco has given her first interview since becoming a mother to newborn twins, heirs to the Monaco crown, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.
“I’m a little tired but we’re all very well thank you…They are growing every day, gaining weight,” the Duchess said in an interview withParis Match.
Prince Albert, 56, and Princess Charlene, 36, welcomed Prince Jacques Honore Rainier and Princess Gabriella Therese Marie on Wednesday December 10 – two weeks before their due date.
“At first, I was happy to hear their first cries. I was obviously a bit overwhelmed with emotion. Every second with them is magical. I look forward to spending more time in their presence”, said Charlene.
“Watching them grow is wonderful. It changes lives forever.”
Princess Charlene is hoping to leave hospital in time to be home for Christmas, but as the twins were born slightly premature, it could take some time.
She says: “It depends on the kids … You see, they are the ‘boss’ now.”
They might be boss, but new mum Charlene couldn’t stop gushing about her little miracles!
“What I can tell you is that they are both very active and very expressive. They are beautiful, adorable, I’m crazy in love with them.”
Since delivering the twins via Caesarean, former Olympic swimmer, who wed Prince Albert in 2011, has remained in the Princess Grace hospital (named after Prince Albert’s mother) but is expected to be discharged shortly.
If the public is lucky though, Charlene has said that she is keen to show off her new little Prince and Princess by “early next week”. This would be few weeks ahead of their formal presentation to the public on January 7th, when the royal birth will be celebrated with a national public holiday.
The Princely Palace adorned with hundreds of flags in the national colour.
Following in the footsteps of Prince Albert’s own parents, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, Charlene and Albert will then take to the balcony of the Princely Palace to present the newborn heirs to the citizens of Monaco.
Last week, as promised by the palace in the lead up to the birth, infant heirs were greeted with great fanfare. Their arrival was marked by a 42 cannon salute (21 for each child) from Fort Antoine, as well as church bells ring out for fifteen minutes, followed by boat horns in Monaco Harbour.
The Princely Palace has also been adorned with hundreds of flags in the national colour. Following in the footsteps of Prince Albert’s own parents, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, Charlene and Albert will take to the balcony of the palace to present the newborn heirs to the citizens of Monaco.
It’s reported that the Prince has been a constant presence at the hospital by Charlene’s side although he did attend a ceremony on Friday for the official signing of the birth certificates, and he was cheered by the crowd as he arrived at a football game to watch club AS Monaco in action.
Although Princess Gabriella was born first, according to Monaco law, the male heir, Prince Jacques will be considered first in line to the throne.
