Inside Big Kev’s TV proposal

The world’s heaviest Biggest Loser contestant pops the question to his sweetheart.

For contestants who appear on The Biggest Loser, makeover week is a major highlight. And for Kevin, or “Big Kev” as he’s affectionately known, it’s a life-changing time he’ll never forget.

This year marks the contestant’s second chance at shedding weight for good from his former world-record-breaking 254kg frame.

Making it to the makeover was more than a personal goal – it was a  chance to propose to the girl of his dreams.

“I started this journey because I wanted to give her the life she deserves,” Kev, 27, says of his girlfriend of five years, Julie.

“I wanted to change so we can experience the life she wants – and she wants to travel.”

After losing 55.4kg on last year’s The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation, Kev returned to reach his goal of losing more than 100kg.

In an even more inspiring twist, Kev decided it was time to ask Julie for her hand in marriage.

“Last season, I didn’t make it to makeover, and I always thought if I’d made it to makeover it would’ve been an awesome thing to be able to see the dramatic change,” he says.

“I really wanted Julie to see what I had done for our relationship and how much I love her.

“Getting down on one knee is not an easy task for a big guy. I was actually outside practicing going up and down right up until I was walking out on stage.”

And Julie got the surprise of a lifetime. “You imagine the moment but when it actually happens, it’s like a dream,” she says.

The moment was made even sweeter by the fact Julie could give her gentle giant a real hug for the first time.

“That was amazing,” adds Julie. “To be able to get my arms around him is something we’ve always wanted to achieve.”

Looking at the pair, it’s hard to believe their romance almost didn’t fully blossom.

“Julie was never judgemental of my size but she was concerned about my health and about what other people would say or think,” says Kev.

Luckily, Julie realised she was on to a winner. But does she accept Kev’s on-air engagement proposal?

“You’ll have to watch!” she teases.
