Imogen, The Voice Kids favourite – and a Youtube sensation, has a big future ahead of her.

Her remarkable talent has had everyone singing her praises on The Voice Kids. Certainly, the statuesque 13-year-old Imogen blew all four judges away at her blind audition with her powerful rendition of Nina Simone’s Feel Good that earned her a standing ovation.

“I’ve always wanted to do a talent show, but I was really nervous at the blind audition,” she reflects. “I was just a bit frazzled. But I always tell myself whenever I get too nervous that it’s good, because if you don’t get nervous there is probably something wrong.

“I loved all the judges and it was really hard to decide between them when they all turned around. In the end, I went with the Madden brothers because they said they don’t really care about the genre – that they just want me to make it my own song.

“They’ve been absolutely wonderful. I love them,” Imogen declares, adding, “They’re so laid-back, too.”

Imogen, who writes some of her music, has also become a veritable YouTube sensation thanks to videos Calypso has filmed at home of her show-stopping performances.

And it’s clear that Imogen’s family couldn’t be prouder of her! Click through to see all the cute pics from when Imogen spoke to us at her family home.

Don’t miss Imogen in the sing off on Sunday night. Tune in to The Voice Kids at 7.40pm on Channel 9.

“I started playing the harp about three years ago,” Imogen said.

“As for singing, my mother says I was already humming the national anthem at 18 months,” she laughs. “But I’ve always just loved how different singing is to anything else. You can communicate in a way that’s unlike anything else and escape to a different world.”

Imogen, who writes some of her music, has also become a veritable YouTube sensation thanks to videos that her big sister Calypso has filmed at home of her show-stopping performances.

“Calypso is my best friend – I love her so much,” says Imogen. “She’s always been there for me. When we started this YouTube channel three years ago, it was absolutely wonderful. I wouldn’t have even thought about starting the channel without her.”

And it’s clear that Imogen’s parents couldn’t be prouder of her and big sis Calypso, who is an emerging actress. “We just want her to do what she really loves,” said dad Conrad.

“Imogen knows it’s a long journey to get to where she wants to go,” says mum Charlie. “She has no desire to be super famous. She’s a true musician, so as long as she’s involved with music in some way, she’s happy.”

Described as a performer who sings “like a diva” by admiring judge Mel B, Imogen cheerfully confirms she adores all styles of music from “the golden oldies of blues and jazz to R&B to newer modern stuff like Kimbra”.

“My musical idol is definitely Dolly Parton,” says Imogen, adding with a giggle, “I don’t really know why, but it’s probably because she’s always kept a positive attitude towards everything and she’s really strong and smart.

“It’s been great meeting the other Voice Kids who have the same passion as I do. We can just be nerds and talk about music stuff and no-one else knows what we’re talking about!”

Whatever comes of Imogen’s journey on The Voice Kids, however, there’s always another option up the spirited teen’s sleeve – to be a marine biologist! “That’s my Plan B,” she announces. “I just love the ocean.”
