It seems the pressure of performing in front of a live audience was too much for young Romy from Sydney during last night’s blind auditions on The Voice Kids.
The adorable 12-year-old broke down in tears on stage after all four judges, Joel and Benji Madden, Delta Goodrem, and Mel B, failed to turn their chairs during her performance.
While the youngster was singing Adele’s ballad, ‘Turning Tables,’ Delta Goodrem was heard saying “close, close”, but her powerful rendition wasn’t enough to get the Aussie singer-songwriter to spin around.
Romy burst into tears immediately after her performance and all the judges went in for a big group hug.
“Don’t cry, you did great,” Mel B said.
“You just took on The Voice stage, that’s a big achievement.”
Romy’s breakdown comes just weeks after Nine executive Adrian Swift asked fans to stop attacking young contestants online.
Meanwhile, Romy’s proud parents, Liza and Richard who were backstage watching their daughter’s performance, have defended allowing their daughter to compete on the show.
“Romy had never done anything like this before. She sourced the (application) forms herself, ensured that we would be available to do the audition, collated her submission and the rest is history,” they told News.com
“We are very proud of her for making it through the audition process.”
Out of the 8000 children who auditioned, Romy made it to the top 98 who competed in the Blind Audition rounds.
