Downton Abbey cast posts cheeky response to water bottle error

The cast and crew of hit period drama Downton Abbey have laughed off the embarrassing water-bottle blooper caught on camera last week.

Proving they have a sense of humour, the crew responded to the laughable publicity image – in which a modern bottle was seen perched on a mantelpiece, in the background of a scene set in the early 20th century – by taking another not-quite-era-appropriate snap.

In the hilarious new photo, posted on the show’s official Instagram account, cast members have embraced the slip-up by each holding a plastic water bottle while looking very suspicious. while looking mischievous.

“The cast of #Downton embraced ‘water bottle-gate’ today,” the post was captioned.

The idea to poke fun at themselves and the historical error came from the cast members.

“After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters,” stated a spokesperson on the WaterAid.org site.

“They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity.”
