My Kitchen Rules’ guest judge Colin Fassnidge has had a run in with a sea urchin that has seen him end up in hospital!
Irish chef Colin shared an Instagram photo of himself in a hospital bed with a drip in his hand, captioned: “Everyone loves sea urchins to eat …….. I hate the f**kers ! There’s one in my foot …..12 spikes and now off to surgery ….. Here comes the sleep”
While it’s not clear how the accident happened, judging from Colin’s baseball cap and the fact that the injury was in his foot, it seems more likely it was caused by a misstep at the beach, rather than in the kitchen.
Perhaps the celebrity chef will think twice now before experimenting with more exotic ingredients!
While sea urchins can be highly sought-after as exotic ingredients, they are also highly dangerous if stepped on as their spines are laced with poison that can result in swelling, rashes and in extreme cases even paralysis.
Hopefully this isn’t the case for Colin and he will get the treatment he needs! Stay safe Colin!
