White wine vinegar

Friday, October 1, 2004

Question:
Can you substitute something else for white wine vinegar and rice wine vinegar? Will normal vinegar have the same effect?
Robyn Baker, via e-mail.

Answer:
Yes, you can substitute white wine vinegar with either white vinegar or cider vinegar. Rice wine vinegar has a milder and sweeter taste which is slightly less acidic than white vinegar. Try diluting white vinegar and stirring a little sugar into it before using.
