Energy boosting detox plan: days 1 - 4

If you really want to boost your energy and kick-start the new year, then do what celebrities like Demi and Nicole do. A detox will help to unclog your liver, purify the blood and flush your whole body. As toxins release, the metabolism increases and with an increased metabolism you can reclaim the energy from your youth and love the new you.

Use this meal plan to prepare your shopping list and have everything ready before you start. Yes, it requires effort, but what worth doing doesn't? The rewards are well worth it — find out for yourself.

(For those who don't like fish, substitute fish dishes with organic chicken, turkey or tofu and take 1 tbs flaxseed oil each day. Flaxseed oil is available from health food stores. Always serve cold — it's delicious with cereal or used in a salad dressing.)

Before embarking on a weight reducing diet you should consult your medical practitioner. This detox diet should be followed for seven days only and not for an indefinite period.

Breakfast 2 pieces of fruit chopped into a fruit salad with 3 tbs sugar-free muesli, 1 tbs flaxseed oil and 2 tbs goats milk yoghurt Bircher muesli made with rolled oats, toasted almonds, almond or rice milk, and grated apple Low salt (preferably organic) baked beans served on steamed spinach Omelette made from eggs only with mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes

Lunch Lentil, caper and sage salad* (see recipe) with roast beetroot Tomato, sprouts, carrot, rocket and boiled egg salad with 2 tbs of chickpeas and 3 slices avocado 3 fresh spring rolls with tamari and mirin dressing* (see recipe) Green lentils and roast pumpkin (brush of olive oil) served with English spinach and lemon juice

Snack 10 almonds and 3 prunes Carrot and celery stick with humus Apple and 50g piece of smoked tofu Apple and a small handful of mixed nuts

Dinner Grilled organic chicken salad with baby spinach, walnuts, apple and sweet potato Baked salmon fillet with steamed bok choy, fresh rice noodles, and tamari and mirin dressing Stir-fry vegetables with organic chicken and ½ cup brown rice. Lemon juice and tamari dressing. Char-grilled vegetables with 1 tbs hummus as dressing, and grilled snapper fillet
