Isle of Skye, Scotland

If a remote destination is your thing, you’ll feel like you’re at the ends of the earth on the Isle of Skye. The rugged beauty of the area is made all the more haunting by its solitary lighthouses, like the stunning Neist Point Lighthouse. You can even stay in some around the area. Image: Getty

Salt flats, Bolivia

Although the journey to Salar de Uyuni (the world’s largest salt flat) is long and tiring, what awaits you when you get there is out of this world. After taking in the dream-like landscape, couples can stay with locals for a small price — but don’t expect running water or electricity, this is a place where nature and simplicity go hand-in-hand.
