Aussie singer Wes Carr’s tribute song to Sydney siege victims

Aussie singer-song writer Wes Carr has written and recorded a heartfelt song in tribute to the innocent victims of the Sydney siege, and it’s truly touching.

The 32-year-old was inspired to pen the track titled ‘I pray’ after feeling an overwhelming sense  of shock and sadness, much like all Australians, following the tragic end to the Sydney café siege on Tuesday.

“Today I have so many questions, so much on my mind. I woke with a feeling of confusion, uneasiness..,” the talented multi-instrumentalist wrote on Facebook.

“Right now I’m meant to be rehearsing for my up and coming show about George Harrison, by I had something bottled up inside of my heart, I couldn’t ignore the feeling and then this song just poured out of me.”

And the song’s emotionally-charged lyrics and melodies makes it hard not to shed a tear.

“This has nothing to do with religion, it’s one man’s madness and confusion. It doesn’t matter if you’re Christian, Buddhist, atheist or Muslim, we are all ONE type of human,” the lyrics say.

Wes, who is best known for winning the sixth season of Australian Idol in 2008, hopes the song ‘resonates’ with all those affected, especially the brave survivors and the families of Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson.

“In everything that has happened over the last 24 hours I pray we can learn from this and come together as a people no matter what and who we are. If you can’t find love right now, try to at least find hope instead of anger!”
