Katrina Dawson’s three children pick songs to be played at her funeral

The three young children of Sydney siege victim Katrina Dawson have each chosen a touching song to be played at their mum’s funeral.

Oliver, 6, has chosen Somewhere Over The Rainbow, while his sister Chloe, 8, selected The Gambler, by Kenny Rogers.

But its four-year-old Sasha’s song for her beautiful mother that will really strike a chord.

Too young to understand her mother’s absence, Sasha has innocently selected Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Ms Dawson’s memorial service will take place at 3pm in The Great Hall at the University of Sydney.

As a mark of respect, those attending will wear a splash of Ms Dawson’s favourite colour, aqua.

A note left by deceased hostage Katrina Dawson’s child which reads ‘I love you Mum. Love Sasha’ is seen at Martin Place.

In lieu of flowers, the family have also asked for people to donate to the Katrina Dawson Foundation, a new charity set up in her memory that supports education opportunities for women.

Family and friends of Tori Johnson will also gather at St Stephen’s Uniting Church in Macquarie Street, Sydney from 11am to celebrate the 34-year-old’s life.

Meanwhile, Premier of NSW Mike Baird has announced that the thousands of floral tributes in Martin Place will be removed today and all notes, messages and cards will be preserved.

“Following consultation with the families of Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson, removal of the floral tribute in Martin Place will begin from tomorrow afternoon ahead of forecast wet weather,” Premier Baird said.

“Flowers will be clean mulched for future use at a site to be determined in consultation with the families. At an appropriate time we’ll also discuss with them the establishment of a permanent memorial.

Mr Baird went on to thank everyone who has contributed to the floral memorial.

“The memory of this spontaneous outpouring of love will live with me forever as a powerful reminder of the heart that beats strong in this great City.”
