Life was one big party for Bondi clothing store assistant Leeza Ormsby, reports JONATHAN MARSHALL
Leeza’s close friends are shocked at her detainment in Bali and horrified she may be facing life imprisonment in an Indonesian Jail.
“We read all about Corby and saw her on the television and couldn’t believe the horrible conditions she lived in and now we are just finding out that Leeza is in the same boat, it is totally unbelievable,” said her flatmate, James, 32, who has been living with Leeza in Paddington for six months prior to her shock arrest.
James told Woman’s Day Leeza was a social butterfly, was always looking for the next party and was firmly ingrained in the Bondi social scene.
“She would go on weekend long benders,” says James. “She was into the alternative scene, liked being different, she didn’t like things like Facebook.”
James said Leeza loves her friends and is a social butterfly who enjoys “warehouse parties, the sort that are not advertised”.
“She was always out and about,” he said.
Leeza’s favourite nightspots included Sydney’s Burdekin, The Spice Cellar and Abercrombie Hotel.
James said he “never expected in a million years” to hear Leeza would be caught with such a quantity of drugs as is alleged by Bali police.
“You might expect she would go out with enough stuff for one night but nothing like what she is being accused of.”
That same observation has been made by Indonesian authorities who question why a drug user would need such an amount of illegal substance and scales and have suggested she was “dealing”.
Leeza has denied that the drugs found were hers.
For now, James is “freaking out” for his mate and rallying together with friends in Sydney’s eastern suburbs who are concerned for Leeza.
“She will be freaking out; there is no doubt about that. Imagine being locked up in Bali and hearing things like the death penalty being talked about. It is out of control,” he said.
