Gerard Baden-Clay’s secret life of betrayal revealed

In a satisfying conclusion to a story that had the nation transfixed, Gerard Baden-Clay was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 15 years behind bars for killing his wife and the mother of his three daughters on Tuesday.

But not long after his guilty verdict was handed down in Brisbane’s Supreme Court, more disturbing stories started to surface of the 43-year-old’s sordid past, including his long-time and sickening history as a cheating husband.

It has emerged that Baden-Clay was not just a serial cheat and a liar, but he was living a secret life of betrayal. On top of his affair with Toni McHugh and several other mistresses, he was also a regular user of dating and swingers’ websites.

The Courier Mail reported Baden-Clay had created a profile on dating site AdultFriendFinder.com under the name Bruce Overland. In his profile, he stated he was a married man “looking for discrete [sic] sex”.

He also described himself as “Married but don’t want to be – looking for some sex on the side!”

But it was this type of repeated betrayal throughout their 14-year marriage that led his wife Allison to be suspicious of Baden-Clay, ultimately leading to her violent and untimely death.

It has been reported that in journal entries dated back to 2010, Allison expressed her worries about her relationship with the father of her children.

“If only I had… given more sex and put some more work into our marriage and not just been a mother and forget about being a wife,” she wrote.

“I wish… my husband loved me like he did before we were married,’’ she expressed.

“I hate it when… my husband treats me like shit.

“When I get angry I… go into my cave and hide.

“I would give anything if my partner would… love me and make love to me.”

Allison’s body was found on the banks of Kholo Creek at Anstead in Brisbane’s west 10 days after Baden-Clay reported her missing from their home in nearby Brookfield.

Meanwhile, police who investigated Allison’s disappearance and death have since revealed the extraordinary lengths they went to in a bid to get a confession from Baden-Clay, whom they suspected all along.

One effort included bugging the flowers at Allison’s funeral.

This Sunday night Toni McHugh, mistress of convicted murderer Gerard Baden-Clay, is set to reveal chilling details of her relationship with the wife-killer in an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes.

During the emotional sit-down interview, Toni breaks her silence and speaks openly about her affair with the former Brisbane businessman.

“I loved him very much,” she says.

“He had told me that he would marry me.”

The eagerly awaited TV event will also give viewers a peek inside the mind of a murderer.

From the eerie never-before-heard phone call made by Baden-Clay where he allegedly asks someone to kill his wife, to the disturbing video where he is heard saying “everything is going to be all right”,  the exclusive interview on the crime that captured a nation will air on Nine on Sunday at 8pm (AEST).
