Former Australian Test Fast Bowler Brett Lee has announced he will retire from all forms of cricket after a career in the sport spanning 20 years.

Brett Lee has confirmed that he will officially pull up stumps, retiring from all forms of cricket at the age of 38, following the conclusion of the Big Bash League.

Brett announced his retirement from International competition in 2012 but has continued to play the Twenty20 format domestically.

Brett will see out the remainder of Big Bash series, with the Sydney Sixers’ final home game of the regular season scheduled for next Thursday – an event that no doubt will draw quite a crowd.

Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond said: “Brett has been an integral part of the fabric of the Sixers since our inception.”

“He is a true legend of the game, still contributing at the highest level and exemplifies commitment, as his work in the off-seasons to be in top condition for the BBL indicates.”

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland also congratulated the cricketer on a highly impressive career: “On behalf of Australian cricket, I congratulate Brett on a wonderful career.”

“He has been an exceptional cricketer who gained fans around the world not only for his electrifying pace and performances with the ball, but the way that he played the game”

One of the greats of Australian Cricket and fast-bowling, Brett remains Australia’s fourth-highest Test wicket-taker of all-time behind Warne, McGrath and Dennis Lillee. He is also the equal-highest wicket taker for Australia in one-day internationals.
