Amanda Knox is engaged!

amanda knox engaged

Looks like Valentine’s Day came early for Amanda Knox, the girl convicted of murdering Meredith Kercher in 2007. The infamous inmate is engaged to be married!

The 27-year-old American fell in-love with Colin Sutherland, a Brooklyn musician who she’s been friends with since middle school.

Amanda’s trial for the murder of her roommate when she was living in Italy gained international attention.

The then-student, dubbed “Foxy Knoxy” by the media, was initially convicted by an Italian court of killing Meredith, but that decision was overturned on appeal in October 2011 after she had spent four years in prison. Then, in a shocking twist, she was reconvicted again last year.

The happy news comes of Amanda’s engagement comes at a rather uncertain time for her, as her appeal to overturn the reconviction is set to begin next month.

Amanda has always maintained her innocence, telling ABC news she will not be traveling to Italy for the new appeal because if found guilty again, she’d be sent back to jail.

In January last year, Amanda spoke about the appeal and defended herself once more.

“It really hit me like a train,” she said. “I did not expect this to happen. I really expected so much better from the Italian justice system. They found me innocent once before.

“I will never go willingly back to that place… I’m going to fight this to the very end. It’s not right and it’s not fair,” she said.

But despite all her hardships, it looks like Amanda is finally starting to pick up the pieces of her life. Since being released from prison, she’s returned to the United States and even received her bachelor’s degree in creative writing at the University of Washington last year.
