Duchess Catherine’s $55 earrings lend a helping hand

Kate Middleton

Duchess Catherine’s style choices always seem to cause a buying frenzy with shoppers hoping to grab a piece of her stunning wardrobe for themselves – this time though, it has all been in aid of a good cause!

Catherine, 33, stepped out last week in a stunning Hobbs shirt dress that sold out straight away – but it was her earrings that have particularly captivated shoppers, if for no other reason than the very affordable $55 (£30) price point.

“Our website crashed, it went absolutely mad but I’m beside myself with happiness,” said Veronique Henry – the founder of Mirabelle Jewellery, the North London-based jewellery line that designed the earrings.

The particular style – known as the ‘Lolita’ earrings, are a gold-plated loop style and are quite unique as they are hand-made – not mass-produced – in line with the fair-trade nature of the Mirabelle brand.

“She got them at the jewellery boutique ‘Felt’ in Chelsea,” Veronique told People magazine.

The designer added: “They are very popular earrings, but now even more so since she wore them.”

Although the style instantly sold out, royal fans are not easily-dissuaded and have been adding themselves to the three-week waiting list.

“They are made in Indonesia by just one family,” Veronique said.

“That’s the great thing about Kate wearing these — they are made in a little village by a lovely family. So now all the cousins, aunties, everyone in the family are rallying round to help out.”

It doesn’t get much more heart-warming than that! A one-off appearance by Duchess Catherine and now an entire Indonesian village has been given new life force!

Do they know though that their earrings are being worn by the future Queen of England all the way on the other side of the world?

“Oh yes, I called them on Friday to tell them and they are so happy — it’s just amazing!”
