With a second royal baby on the way, Duchess Catherine has been practising her skills meeting with other little ones – however she often seems to have something known as “the Duchess Catherine effect” on them!
Catherine meets with hundreds of members of the public everywhere she goes – and often the excitement of meeting her in the flesh can have quite an overwhelming effect on her well-wishers.
This is especially the case when it comes to her little fans! As the saying goes, “never work with children or animals” as their behaviour can be a little unpredictable!
Thankfully though, this usually just makes for some highly adorable moments – such as the super cute two-year-old Ryan Dixon who was tasked with presenting the pregnant Duchess with a bouquet of flowers on her recent visit to Kensington. Instead, he burst into tears as soon as she approached!

Ryan’s Mum Tracy said she was shocked to see the normally boisterous 2-year-old Ryan come over so shy and speechless and had to take over for him: “We practised all weekend. He was going to say ‘these are for you, nice flowers, lovely flowers’ and he was fine doing it at home.”

One child though had a particularly odd question for the royal. When presenting the Duchess with a bouquet, they asked “Would you like to be a chicken?” The Duchess replied with a smile: “Would I like to be a chicken?! Maybe!”
“Oh my God! “Oh my God! It’s Princess Kate!” was the surprised exclamation that the Duchess was greeted with by one little boy when she visited the Beaver Scouts in December last year.
Catherine dismissed the Princess title though, saying: “My name’s Catherine. Very nice to meet you.”
The Duchess had a turn wearing a blindfold as she iced a cupcake with the Scouts – the idea was to simulate the experience of being blind.

“They thought she was the princess from Frozen,” Rose Ann Harris, director of early childhood services at the centre, explained.
“When they heard she was coming, they thought it was Elsa; we said a princess and they got a princess.”
Duchess Catherine and Prince William are clearly old-hands when it comes to chatting to school-aged kids: they’ve perfected their synchronised crouching skills to an art form!
The Duchess must have quite an epic collection of soft toys for little Prince George and his future brother or sister by now as she is inundated with teddy bears from well-wishing children wherever she goes!
7-year-old Jaydn Proffitt shared his painting skills with the Duchess as she visited his school, Rose Hill Primary, as part of her role as patron of the charity The Art Room.
Sometimes, all a kid wants is a hug – and this little cutie looked overjoyed that the Duchess delivered when she visited Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool.
In fact, the Duchess seems to have such an effective way with kids that if ever she needed an alternative career to fall back on, she’d surely make an excellent primary school teacher!
