Safety fears for pregnant Duchess Catherine

There are growing concerns for the safety of Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, after it was revealed she could have up to 220 stalkers.

A specialist police team, including nine detectives and psychiatric nurses, are now monitoring those “high risk” stalkers who pose a threat to the pregnant duchess and are carrying out “welfare and medication checks”.

The Duchess, who is due to welcome her second child in the coming months, is in more danger as her due date approaches.

Former head of royal protection, Dai Davies says events, like a royal birth, can increase the potential danger on the Duchess and the royal family.

“They give rise to a greater likelihood of an incident. If you look back through history the greatest threat to the royal family apart from the IRA has been fixated individuals,” he told UK newspaper The Mirror.

“Prevention is one of the key areas because in about 70 per cent of cases where there have been attacks, the fixated person has indicated before the incident that they are going to do something.”

The specialist team are focusing on some of Britain’s most dangerous stalkers, with 40 percent of that group fixated on the royal family.

More than 10,000 letters are sent to Buckingham palace a year. While most are harmless, many do contain threats against the Queen and Prince Charles.

“We have a significant number of people who believe they are the Queen or are in love with Prince William,” Forensic psychologist Dr Frank Farnham said.

With her husband Prince William currently on his royal tour of Japan and China, the Duchess has been spending her time preparing for her final public engagements before the birth of her second child.
